Hotel Information
Hotel description:    HISTORY OF THE BEST WESTERN HOTEL ATLÁNTICO

Conceived in 1921 by the renowned architect Joaquín Saldana y López, the Best Western Hotel Atlántico reflects the eclectic architectural style popular at that time, which was inspired primarily by seventeenth and eighteenth century French art forms.

This unique style is distinguished by a multitude of friezes, abutments, tympanums, balustrades, and pinnacles, and often includes additional decoration in allegorical or mythological motifs.

The blueprints of the Best Western Hotel Atlántico reveal the architect's carefully noted details of constructions, including particulars of the stone facade, the mezzanine brackets, the ornamental imitation stone flat roof, the cement balconies, and the stucco designs.

The building's original majestic splendor is retained to this day in its impressive array of columns, pilasters, niches, and other ornamental embellishments, as well as in the grand French cupola that crowns the structure and the frontispiece, only slightly altered through the decades, which once bore the coat of arms of the initial proprietor, the Marquis of Falces.

Other important structures in central Madrid exhibit the same distinctive architectural features as the Best Western Hotel Atlántico. These include the Equitative building, the Casino, the Ritz and Palace Hotels, and the imposing Union and Phoenix building.

Getting there: The Best Western Hotel Atlántico is located on the Gran Vía, a major communications artery between Old Madrid and newer northern neighborhoods that developed at the beginning of the twentieth century.

As the city expanded during the Modernist period, the dark and narrowly winding streets that characterized Old Madrid gave way to wide, linear avenues more in tune with contemporary urban sensibilities

The hotel enjoys an ideal location, which permits a wide variety of public transportation options to destinations throughout the city, including bus, taxi and subway service (line 5 - green), all of them in front of the hotel, in Plaza Callao.

We remind you that the hotel offers a free direct shuttle service from the Madrid airport to the hotel.

This service is also available from the hotel to the airport, at a cost of 6 Euros. Our concierge will be happy to assist you with any questions you may have about these services.
